Sodium Stearate Introduction

Sodium Stearate is a kind of white powder with a chemical formula of CH3(CH2)16COONa. Sodium stearate is a white oily powder with a slippery feel and fatty odor. It is easily soluble in hot water or hot alcohol. The aqueous solution is alkaline due to hydrolysis, and the alcohol solution is neutral. Sodium stearate is made by the interaction of octadecanoic acid and sodium hydroxide. Mainly used in toothpaste manufacturing, but also as a waterproofing agent and plastic stabilizer.

Sodium stearate is a versatile material used as an emulsifier, dispersant, gelling agent, stabilizer, binder, viscosity modifier, and more. It is a major component of many soaps, cosmetics, and food additives.
