Ferrous Sulfate Introduction

Ferrous Sulfate is a kind of greenish-blue crystalline powder with a chemical formula of FeSO4 · 7H2O. It is odorless and easily soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. It will be weathered in dry air and easily oxidized to brown basic iron sulfate in moist air.

Ferrous sulfate is the sulfate salt of the divalent cation form of iron. It is an essential body mineral, that is commonly used in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. Ferrous Sulfate is used as a nutritional supplement (iron fortifier), and fruit and vegetable coloring agent.

Ferrous sulfate (or sulphate) is a medicine used to treat and prevent iron deficiency anaemia. Iron helps the body to make healthy red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body. Some things such as blood loss, pregnancy or too little iron in your diet can make your iron supply drop too low, leading to anaemia.

 

What are the precautions for taking ferrous sulfate supplements?

1. Supplements work best when taken on an empty stomach. Take this medicine at least one hour before or two hours after a meal.
2. To avoid tail discomfort, it may be necessary to take it with food, and taking it with vitamin C (such as a glass of orange juice) can increase absorption.
3. Iron supplements should not be taken with milk, caffeine, antacids or calcium supplements.
