1-Adamantylamine Introduction
1-Adamantylamine is a weak NMDA-type glutamate receptor antagonist, increases dopamine release and blocks dopamine reuptake, and has trihexyphenidyl-like anticholinergic effects. The drug also promotes the release of norepinephrine from nerve endings in the brain. It can treat the motor dysfunction of Parkinson’s disease, and can also improve the dyskinesia that occurs after long-term Parkinson’s disease treatment with dopaminergic drugs.
